Coronavirus: Lockdown Imposed In Maharashtra’s Nagpur From March 15-21

As COVID-19 cases have been on the rise in Maharashtra for nearly a month, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray indicated that more parts of the state could go into lockdown.

Due to the rising cases of coronavirus in the city, Nagpur in Maharashtra will go under lockdown for a week, from March 15 to March 21. Essential services like vegetable and fruit shops and milk booths will stay functional during this period. As COVID-19 cases have been on the rise in Maharashtra for nearly a month, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray indicated that more parts of the state could go into lockdown.

“In the coming days, there might be some places where a lockdown is inevitable. We will take the decision in the next couple of days,” CM Thackeray said after taking the first shot of the Covid-19 vaccine.

All the areas that come under the Nagpur Police Commissionerate will go under lockdown. The development comes two days after a ”Janata curfew” was imposed for three days in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district, from 8 pm today to 8 am on Monday.

Maharashtra reported 13,659 daily cases of Covid-19 infection, almost 60 per cent of the daily new cases in the country. The western state continues to have the highest number of Covid cases in India.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had left it to the local administration in all districts to take a call on imposing stricter measures – including night curfews or partial lockdowns – to control the spread of the infection.
