New Delhi | Union Minister and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Jitendra Singh on Sunday denied his parties role in the dissolition of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
Addressing reporters Singh said,” It’s not in BJP’s work culture to interfere in constitutional organisations’ work.” Speaking on the dissolution of Jammu and Kashmir’s assembly by governor Satyapal Malik amid fear of horse trading of MLAs, the Union Minister said,”t was Governor’s discretion and we’ve to trust that.” Citing judicial options against the governor’s decision Jitendra Singh said “If some don’t trust the governor’s decision they have the right to approach the judiciary in democracy.”

The Jammu and Kashmir assembly was abruptly dissolved by the Governor on 21 November after the PDP staked claim to form a government with the backing of rival National Conference and the Congress followed by another bid from the two-member People’s Conference which claimed the support of the BJP and 18 legislators from other parties. The dissolution was announced by Governor Satyapal Malik in a communique released by the Raj Bhavan.
