Bengaluru | Sri Ram Sene President Pramod Muthalik on Sunday created a controversy by comparing the Death of Journalist-Activist Gauri Lankesh with a dogs death.
Addressing a Public rally he said that “No one questioned the Congress government’s failure. Instead, they are asking why is Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi silent and not speaking on Gauri Lankesh’s death. Many wanted PM Modi to react after Gauri Lankesh’s death. Why should Modi react if some dog dies in Karnataka?”

The Right-wing leader who is known for making such controversial statements has a long history of communal remarks in the past.
Drinking by girls was ‘against Indian culture’
In 2009 Pramod Muthalik’s Sri Ram Sene allegedly attacked a pub in Mangalore and beat up customers, some of the girls, claiming that drinking by girls was ‘against Indian culture’. The then Karnataka BJP government banned him from entering Mangalore. In response, he campaigned against BJP in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, calling it “corrupt and anti-Hindu”.
Bloodshed if Iftar parties are organised in Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt
In 2017 Bangalore Police filed charges of communal violence against Muthalik and his associates after Sri Ram Sena’s protest before the Gandhi Statue near Anand Rao Circle in Bengaluru, attacking the seer for hosting an Iftar party at the Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt. Pramod Muthalik in his speech during the protest said that there will be bloodshed if Iftar parties are held in temples henceforth.
Threat from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh
In January 2018, Muthalik claimed that he faces a threat to his life from his former colleagues in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. “I know my enemies well. Congress, Communists, intellectuals are my enemies. But they are known enemies. They work against me,” “I am worried about my own people who can harm me. They are good at backstabbing. “My own people are after me. They don’t like my popularity. I am worried,” Muthalik said. “They don’t like anyone getting name and fame. They have a slave mindset.” He also claimed that he had been forced to leave the RSS because he achieved a lot both with and without them.
The Hindutva leader known as a political opportunist ahead of the 2013 Karnataka Assembly Election announced that his Sri Ram Sene will remain an independent cultural organisation but our cadres will work for Shiv Sena candidates in Karnataka. He stated that he had “wasted” 40 years of his life for the Sangh, and was now disillusioned. “RSS leaders talk about Hindu unity [but] they don’t like their own people. How will they achieve unity?”
The Goa state authorities in May 2018 added a 2-month ban on Pramod Muthalik for entering Goa stating that his statements may lead to violence. Pramod Muthalik is been banned from entering Goa since 2014.
