Chennai: A few days ago in Tamil Nadu, mysteriously the car of a BJP leader was set on fire. Sathish Kumar, the BJP district secretary for Tiruvallur West, filed a complaint with the police that his car was set on fire. He said that his car was parked at his house in the Maduravoyal area in Chennai.
The police started probing after the incident occurred on Thursday. During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage to check what happened. In the footage, it was seen that a man dressed in a white shirt riding a cycle, approached the car parked on the side of the road, and then looked inside through the windows from all sides. He then leaves the spot. After a few minutes, a man dressed in dark clothes is seen pouring something into the car, and then the car was set on fire. In the footage, it can be seen that the car is in flames and the man runs away.
Seeing the car ablaze, people informed the family of the BJP member, who called the police.
The police immediately on being informed about the car reached the spot. The police started to investigate the incident as there were rumours of a petrol bomb being hurled at the car. After examining the CCTV footage, the police realised that the man who set fire to the car resembled Sathish Kumar himself.
The police then started to interrogate him. He confessed that he set the car on fire. In his confession, he said that his wife had been insisting that she buy him gold jewellery, but he could not afford it. His wife advised him to sell the car and buy jewellery. Sathish then decided to set his car on fire and claim the insurance money for the gift for his wife. However, his plan failed, as CCTV footage shows his act of setting the car on fire.
The BJP member was taken into custody, he was released later by the police.
