Imran Khan’s Government In Minority As Key Ally Quits Government

Lahore: Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government received a big shock by key ally and the main coalition partner Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM), as it quit government. It quit after it struck a deal with the opposition Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, taking to Twitter, shared the news of opposition and MQM reaching an agreement. He tweeted, “The united opposition and MQM have reached an agreement. Rabta committee MQM and PPP CEC will ratify the said agreement. We will then share details with the media in a press conference tomorrow IA. Congratulations Pakistan.”

According to current situation, at the lower house of Pakistan Parliament, Imran Khan’s government has lost the majority. This comes ahead of no-confidence motion against Imran government.

After coalition partner MQM-P decided to part ways with the Imran Khan-led government, and has reached on an agreement with the united opposition, Pakistan’s joint opposition now has 177 members of the national assembly, and Imran Khan’s government is left with only 164 MNAs (Members of National Assembly).

Notably, Pakistan’s joint opposition requires support of 172 MNAs for making the no-confidence motion successful against Pak PM.

Total strength of Pakistani National Assembly is of 342 members, the majority mark is 172. The PTI-led coalition was formed with the support of 179 members. But, now after the MQM-P has parted ways from the Imran Khan government, PTI stands with 164 member support, and the opposition now has 177 members supporters and the national assemblies.

Imran Khan is claiming that some people are trying to topple his government, by seeking help of foreign funds. Federal minister Asad Umar claims that PM is ready to show letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial to back his claims.

During his rally Khan said that “Attempts are being made through foreign money to change the government in Pakistan. Our people are being used. Mostly inadvertently, but some people are using money against us. We know from what places attempts are being to pressure us. We have been threatened in writing but we will not compromise on national interest.”
