Veteran Oncologist and Padma Awardee Dr V Shanta No More

Veteran oncologist Dr V Shanta has also been awarded for her selfless service. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 1986 and the Padma Bhushan in 2006.

 

Chennai| The founder of Adyar Cancer Institute, Tamil Nadu, Dr V Shanta passed away today in the state capital Chennai. She was 93. Dr V Shanta was admitted to a private hospital in the city last night after complaining of chest pain. She was undergoing treatment here. After her death, her body was taken to the old Cancer Institute campus, which she had built with her mentor, Dr Krishnamurti.

Veteran oncologist Dr V Shanta has also been awarded many prizes. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 1986 and the Padma Bhushan in 2006. She was famous for her accessible treatments for cancer. She has also been awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award. Dr Shanta was the President and Executive President of the Cancer Institute (WIA) Chennai. She worked on the care of patients up to the age of 50, on disease studies.
