Ukraine: Missile Hits Residential Building At Kyiv

Kyiv: An apartment was hit by a missile overnight in Kyiv as fighting between the Russian attackers and Ukrainian forces was at its peak, officials said on Saturday. Emergency services have stated that the number of victims will be specified and the evacuation process is underway.

A picture of the tower was posted online. The tower block has a covering of at least five floors blasted into the side and rubble was strewn across the street below.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko wrote online that the building had been hit by a missile. In a video, he has said that the night was quite difficult with Russian “sabotage groups” in the capital. He insisted that there were no regular Russian troops in Kyiv, but said they were trying to enter from several directions.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba tweeted a picture of the damaged apartment block.

“Kyiv, our splendid, peaceful city, survived another night under attacks by Russian ground forces, missiles. One of them has hit a residential apartment in Kyiv,” he wrote.

He appealed to the international community, to “fully isolate Russia, expel ambassadors, (introduce an) oil embargo, ruin its economy.”

“Stop Russian war criminals!” he added.

The Russian military said on Saturday it had targeted Ukraine’s military infrastructure using cruise missiles fired from the air and sea.

After the Ukrainian forces said they had repulsed a Russian attack on Saturday, in their capital city, President Volodymyr Zelensky shot a video vowing to stay and fight back.

“I am here. We will not lay down any weapons. We will defend our state because our weapons are our truth,” he declared, denouncing as disinformation claims that he had surrendered or fled.

Speaking of the fake news being shared about him, “A lot of fake information has appeared on the internet saying that I allegedly called on our army to lay down its arms and that evacuation is underway,” he said outside his office.
