Daily COVID Updates: India Records 11,499 New COVID-19 Cases

New Delhi: India recorder 11,499 new cases, 12.6 per cent lower than yesterday.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands reported just one new COVID-19 case, which took the tally in the Union Territory to 10,016, a health department official said on Saturday.

The fresh patient has a travel history, he said.

The death toll remained at 129 as no new fatality due to the infection was reported in the last 24 hours, the official said.

As a precautionary measure in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued guidelines for the celebration of Maha Shivratri in the city, which will take place on March 1.

In the backdrop of declining COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in Delhi, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal said that all COVID-19 related restrictions in the national capital will be lifted from February 28.

However, the LG said that it is pivotal to follow COVID Appropriate Behaviour.

With Covid cases declining across the country, Mumbai has decided to resume offline classes from March 2 with full attendance. Maharashtra Minister of Tourism and Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray said that schools and other educational institutions will reopen with pre-covid timings for full attendance and extra curricular activities. The schools will function in offline mode, and do away with the mixed mode of teaching and learning. Students will however be required to adhere to all Covid protocols and wear a mask at all times, an official statement issued in this regard said.

Schools and colleges in Maharashtra’s Pune district reopened from February 1, while in other parts of the state, schools for pre-primary to Class 12 students reopened from January last week after a long break due to the onslaught of the coronavirus.

While announcing the school reopening news, Aaditya Thackeray said: “The schools also will be encouraged to organise vaccination camps for students above 15 years of age, with BMC Education Dept, doctors, and the consent of parents, to ensure vaccination rates and protection for students.”

“I held a meeting for schools in Mumbai to resume from March, with pre-covid timings, attendance, curricular and extra-curricular activities, apart from certain essential covid appropriate norms, as cases steadily decline in Mumbai,” the minister said.
