Section 144 Imposed In Mumbai Amid Spike In Covid

Mumbai: From December 30, 2021 to January 7, 2022 government has imposed section 144 in Mumbai amid spike in covid cases. Earlier police had issued ‘no new year celebrations’ order.

An order issued by the Commissioner of Police, Greater Mumbai, on Wednesday, 29 November, states that no New Year’s celebrations or gatherings, in any closed or open space, including restaurants, hotels, bars, pubs, resorts and clubs will be permitted.

“Any person contravening this order shall be punishable under section 188 of Indian Penal Code 1860 in addition to the penal provision under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 and National Disaster Management Act 2005 and other legal provisions as applicable,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Chaitanya S noted in the order.

Previously, in an order dated 24 December, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had banned any kind of New Year’s celebration in Mumbai.

“I, Dr IS Chahal, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, hereby direct that no New Year’s celebration programme/function/gathering/party/activity or happening in any closed or open space shall be allowed in municipal limits of Greater Mumbai,” read the order issued by the municipal commissioner on Friday.

Meanwhile, Mumbai reported 2,510 new COVID cases on Wednesday, an 82 percent rise from Tuesday’s 1,377 cases. 84 cases of Omicron have been reported in the city so far.

Bhopal: Hindu Religious Leader Kalicharan Maharaj has been arrested for making derogatory remarks against Father Of Nation Mahatma Gandhi, and praised his assassin, Nathuram Godse. He has been arrested from Madhya Pradesh’s Khajuraho by Chhattisgarh Police.

Acting on a specific input, the Raipur police apprehended the seer from a rented room near Bageshwar Dham, located around 25 km from Khajuraho town in MP, Raipur Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal told PTI. To avoid police all his aides too had switched off their mobile phones. 

This morning, a team of 10 policemen finally tracked him down, arrested him. He will be taken to court by evening.

He will be brought here via road route by Thursday evening, the official said.

A case was also registered against him at Akola in Maharashtra on Monday in this connection.

Chief Patron Mahant Ramsunder Das, walked out in anger after hearing remarks made by Kalicharan Maharaj. He was charged with promoting enmity between communities after former mayor Pramod Dubey filed a police case.

In his speech – clips of which have been widely circulated on social media, Kalicharan Maharaj declares that the aim of Islam is to capture the nation through politics. He also declared “Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi destroyed the country… salutations to Nathuram Godse, who killed him”.

Kalicharan Maharaj demanded people elect a “staunch Hindu leader” to “protect” Hinduism.
