“I saw it today”, CJI to take Unnao rape survivor’s letter case tomorrow

New Delhi | Chief Justice of India Rajan Gogoi will take up Unnao rape case survivor’s letter on Thursday, in which she had alleged that she had received threats to her life.

The apex court will take her case as well as a report citing why the letter did not reach the CJI.

“The letter has not been placed before me and newspapers flashed that CJI did not act,” Justice Gogoi said.

The rape survivor, who has been hospitalised due to an accident on Sunday, had written a letter addressed to CJI Ranjan Gogoi, in which she claims some people had asked her to take back cases and threatened her. “People came to my house and threatened to take back cases, otherwise the whole family will be put in jail in fake cases,” says the letter written on July 12.

FIR has been filed by the UP government as well as the CBI against BJP lawmaker Kuldeep Singh Sengar and 10 others for being responsible.

Kuldeep Sengar is also the main accused in the Unnao rape case and is currently in jail.

The 19-year-old Unnao victim and her lawyer were injured and two of her aunts killed in the accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli. She has been critically injured and doctors on Wednesday said she is stable now.

Meanwhile, the Opposition has strongly criticised the BJP government for not taking any action against its MLA.
