New Delhi | Jammu and Kashmir’s 16-year-old teenager Irfan Ramzan Sheikh was today bestowed Shaurya Chakra by President Ram Nath Kovind for showing exemplary courage when he foiled an attack by three militants on his house in 2017.
Back on October 16, 2017 when Irfan just 14-year-old three militants attacked his house with an intention to kill his father Mohammed Ramzan Shiekh, a political activist. Irfan showed bravery and didn’t allow the terrorist armed with grenades and rifles to enter the house. In the fight with the terrorist, his father was severely injured while a terrorist was shot dead.
Along with Irfan Sheikh Shaurya Chakra was also awarded to Rifleman Jaiprakash Oraon and Sepoy Ajay Kumar for their role in counter-terror operations in Manipur and Jammu and Kashmir respectively. Shaurya Chakras were also awarded to CRPF Deputy Commandant Kuldeep Singh Chahar, Major Pawan Kumar, Rifleman Rathva Lilesh Bhai, Naib Subedhar Anil Kumar Dahiya, CRPF Assistant Commandant Zile Singh, Havildar Jaweed Ahmad Bhat, Havildar Kul Bahadur Thapa, Lieutenant Colonel Arjun Sharma, Captain Abhay Sharma, Major Imliakum Keitzar, Major Rohit Lingwal and Lieutenant Colonel Vikrant Prasher for displaying gallantry during Army operations in the Northeast and Jammu and Kashmir.
While Kirti Chakras were awarded to Sowar Vijay Kumar of the Armoured Corps and Constable Pradip Kumar Panda of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The two died in two separate operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
