Ahmedabad | Gujarat Home Minister Pradeepsinh Jadeja on Monday urged the migrant workers to return to Gujarat who left to there home states amid fear after attacks on non-Gujarati by the angry mob over the alleged rape of a 14-month-old minor.
Addressing a Press Conference, the state Home minister said,” It is our responsibility to provide security to those who come to Gujarat for employment from other states… We are very serious about resuming the law and order in the state. We have filed 35 FIRs (First Information Reports in this case.” Informing about the development in the matter Jadeja said, “More than 450 people have been arrested for the attacks on the migrants and the state police chief is reviewing the situation.” He further added that a report has also been submitted to the Central government.

According to the reports, the locals started to attack the Hindi speaking migrants in Gujarat after the police arrested a person named Rabindra Sahu, a resident of Bihar for his alleged involvement in the rape of a 14-month-old girl in Sabarkantha district last week. The mob attacked the house of the migrants with stones and stick in areas of Gujarat such as Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Sabarkantha, Patan and Mehsana.
Speaking on the attack on people belonging to Bihar, CM Nitish Kumar said, “I spoke to Gujarat CM yesterday. We’re in touch with them. They’re monitoring the situation. Those who’ve committed a crime should be punished but no bias should be harboured for others.”
