New Delhi: The counting of votes has begun for the three Lok Sabha and seven assembly seats across five states and Delhi, where by-polls were held on June 23.

In Punjab’s Sangrur Lok Sabha seat, vacated by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Simranjit Singh Mann, leader of an Akali Dal splinter group, is leading.
In Tripura, by-polls were held on three Assembly seats – Agartala, Jubarajnagar, Surma, and Town Bardowali. Chief Minister Manik Saha, who needed to get elected to retain his seat, won in Town Bardowali by a margin of more than 6,000 votes.

In Punjab, the ruling AAP has fielded Gurmail Singh, the party’s Sangrur district in charge; Congress former Dhuri MLA Dalvir Singh Goldy, and the BJP have fielded former Barnala MLA Kewal Dhillon, who had joined the party on June 4.
Kamaldeep Kaur was Shiromani Akali Dal’s candidate. Kaur is the sister of Balwant Singh Rajoana, a convict in former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh’s assassination case. The Akali’s Amritsar Party President Simranjit Singh Mann is also in the contest.
The by-election in Jharkhand was necessitated after the disqualification of MLA Bandhu Tirkey after he was convicted in a corruption case.
The Congress fielded his daughter, Shilpi Neha Turkey, as the consensual candidate of the ruling JMM-led coalition, while the BJP nominated former MLA Gangotri Kujur in the seat. Independent candidate Dev Kumar Dhan, backed by Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), also contested the Jharkhand byelections.
Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar had Rajesh Bhatia, a former councilor from the area as the saffron party’s candidate Congress’s nominee is Prem Lata.
The by-election in Andhra Pradesh was held to fill a vacancy after Industries Minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy passed away in February this year. His younger brother Vikram Reddy is fielded by YSR Congress The BJP candidate is G Bharat Kumar Yadav.
