Uddhav Thackeray Moves Against Rebel Sena, Removes Eknath Shinde As “Leader”

According to Mr. Thackeray, Mr.Eknath Shinde has been engaging in “anti-party activities” and has given up his membership.

Mumbai: Eknath Shinde, the recently appointed Maharashtra Chief Minister, was ousted from his position as Shiv Sena leader in the party structure by Uddhav Thackeray on Friday amid a contentious dispute about claims to the organization.

Mr. Thackeray said that Mr. Shinde had been involved in “anti-party actions” and had deliberately resigned from the party in a letter published by the Shiv Sena

“In exercise of the powers vested in me as the Shivsena Paksha Pramukha, I remove you from the post of Shivsena Leader in the party organization,” the letter signed by Uddhav Thackeray said.

Mr. Shinde has asserted that he is the Shiv Sena’s head and that the Thackeray faction is a minority, although he has not publicly referred to himself as Paksha Pramukh (party chief). Officially, Mr. Thackeray is still the chosen party chief of the Shiv Sena

Earlier this week, Mr. Shinde discreetly positioned himself as the political heir apparent to Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. He updated his Twitter profile image to include fiery Hindutva hero and Maratha pride symbol Balasaheb Thackeray.

In the Supreme Court, the Shinde faction claimed to be the genuine Shiv Sena. stating that Mr. Thackeray’s partnership with the Congress and Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has compromised leader Bal Thackeray’s Hindutva doctrine.

Slamming Thackeray on accounts of disloyalty, rebel Sena minister Gulabrao Patil this week said that Thackeray has abandoned 52 of his MLAs, his official residence but not the alliance with NCP Chief Sharad Pawar.

Uddhav Thackeray, early this week resigned as the Maharashtra CM as the Supreme Court rejected the plea to hold the floor test ordered by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.

Immediately as Mr. Shinde was sworn in, Mr. Thackeray questioned why the BJP chose to choose a “so-called Shiv Sainik” as Maharashtra’s CM when it had initially promised to rotate the post in 2019.

Mr. Thackeray further urged the BJP to refrain from “betraying” Mumbai in the same way that it “betrayed” him, he added during a news conference at the Shiv Sena Bhavan.
