Government constitutes committee to look into GST revenue shortfall

The committee will also suggest measures to prevent systematic misuse of GST, increase the tax base, better monitoring and prevent tax evasion.

 

New Delhi| The government has constituted a high-level committee of officials to investigate the declining GST collection in the states. The committee has been asked to consider measures which can help in increasing revenue. The committee will submit the first report in 15 days. The committee has been asked to voluntarily link the industries to the GST system and report on better administrative coordination, with the decline in revenue after the implementation of GST.

An official statement released from the GST Council Secretariat said, “The 12-member committee currently has GST commissioners from Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Maharashtra. Other states have also been given the option to join the committee. Center and A joint team of state officials are expected to suggest measures to bring a positive change in the situation. ”

The committee will also make suggestions to increase the tax base and stop evasion

The committee will also suggest measures to prevent systematic misuse of GST, increase the tax base, better monitoring and prevent tax evasion. The available data will be tested for this so that a list of comprehensive suggestions can be revealed.

Apart from revenue related matters, the committee has also been asked to prepare a provision for voluntary linkage to GST, to give feedback on policy issues and to suggest related changes in the law.
