A day after Serum Insitute of India, the manufacturer of Covishield reduced its procurement price for states to Rs 300/dose, Bharat Biotech has followed suit and reduced the price of Covaxin to Rs 400/dose, the company said in an announcement.
The Hyderabad-based firm in the announcement said “Bharat Biotech is deeply concerned with the critical pandemic circumstances that India is facing at this time. Recognizing the enormous challenges to the public health care system, we have made Covaxin available to state governments at a price of Rs. 400/dose.”

The price for private hospitals’ procurement, however, remains unchanged at Rs 1200/dose.

Serum Insitute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla had announced yesterday that it is reducing the price of Covishield for states to Rs. 300/dose for the states as a humanitarian gesture.
Amidst the disparity in procurement prices, several shortages have been reported in many cities with uncertainty looming large for the 18+ vaccine drive starting May 1. This has led to calls of ramping up production capacity from the manufacturer’s end.
