On Election Results Day, India Records 3.92L COVID-19 Cases And 3689 Deaths

The case count dipped slightly today after a record of 4,01,993 cases were detected yesterday. Deaths, worryingly, continued to rise in the country.

As 4 states and 1 UT await election results of the Assembly Elections, India’s COVID-19 crisis continued to worsen. It reported 3,92,488 positive COVID-19 cases and 3689 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The case count dipped slightly today after a record of 4,01,993 cases were detected yesterday. Deaths, worryingly, continued to rise in the country.

As many as 14 states recorded 100 plus deaths on Saturday, the highest so far. These included two smaller states battling very high mortalities. Uttarakhand recorded 107 deaths, a day after reporting 122 fatalities. In Jharkhand, the toll on Saturday was 159, close to the state’s all-time high count of 160 earlier in the week.

Maharashtra, the worst affected state continued to report high fatalities reported the highest deaths at 802, followed by 412 in Delhi. This was the national capital’s highest single-day toll. Uttar Pradesh reported 303 deaths, a slight drop from (282) and Gujarat (172).

On the brighter side, cases in Maharashtra stabilized around the 63000-65000 mark with Mumbai recording less than 4000 infections (3897) and 90 deaths.

National capital Delhi, meanwhile extended the lockdown in the city by a week, CM Arvind Kejriwal announced. This comes after the situation turned from bad to worse in Delhi with many hospitals raising alarms over lack of oxygen and deaths taking place due to delayed supply.
