Former Chief Minister Of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa Charged With POCSO

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP leader BS Yediyurappa is facing allegations under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after being accused of sexually harassing a teenage girl.

The mother of the 17-year-old girl lodged the complaint at the Sadashivanagar police station in Bengaluru

According to reports, the incident allegedly occurred on February 2 when the girl and her mother visited Yediyurappa, seeking assistance in a cheating case. The girl claimed that Yediyurappa called her into a room and sexually assaulted her.

Yediyurappa has raised doubts about the timing of the complaint, as it comes just weeks before the Lok Sabha election. He asserts that he had provided financial assistance to the complainant and questions the credibility of the allegations.

Yediyurappa also suggests that the girl may not be mentally sound.
The veteran BJP leader added that the mother and daughter have filed over 50 complaints in the past.

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara has confirmed that the police have registered the case, and an investigation is underway. He stresses the importance of ascertaining the truth, especially given Yediyurappa’s former position as Chief Minister. Parameshwara emphasizes sensitivity when handling the case due to its gravity.

The Home Minister has also ruled out any political motives behind the allegations, stating that the police registered the complaint without bias. He underscores the importance of allowing the investigative process to unfold to determine the veracity of the claims.

BS Yediyurappa has had a long and notable political career, serving as Karnataka Chief Minister multiple times, from 2007 to 2011 and 2019 to 2021.
