Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II, Europe’s longest-serving and only reigning queen monarch, announced her abdication on Sunday (Dec 31). The queen will step down on January 14, passing the reigns to her son Crown Prince Frederik. The 83-year-old said she is doing this because of her age and health issues.
