After cancellation of PM Modi’s Turkey visit, India issues advisory to travellers

During January to July 2019, 1.30 lakh Indians travelled to Turkey which was 56 per cent more than the first seven months of the previous year.

New Delhi| India has once again given a strong diplomatic message to the Turkish government engaged in inciting the Kashmir issue. The Indian embassy in Turkey has issued a warning to Indian tourists who are travelling there. India while expressing concern about the situation around Turkey, said that no Indian has been harmed in Turkey yet, but those visiting there need to be very careful.

Tourism plays a huge role in Turkey’s economy and the number of tourists visiting the country is increasing. During January to July 2019, 1.30 lakh Indians travelled to Turkey which was 56 per cent more than the first seven months of the previous year. The Turkish government runs special programs to attract Indian tourists. But given the way, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is continuously speaking the language of Pakistan on Kashmir, India is now seen responding to it.

According to sources in the Ministry of External Affairs, India’s relations with Turkey are old. Bilateral trade between the two countries is about $ 8 billion.

It is worth mentioning that just two days after Erdogan raised the issue of Kashmir at the United Nations, PM Narendra Modi had a special meeting with the heads of the two countries, Greece and Armenia, who have a strong relationship with Turkey. Apart from Pakistan, Turkey and Malaysia raised the Kashmir issue in the United Nations. India is also signalling to Malaysia to change its thinking. India is the largest importer of palm oil from Malaysia and India may reduce its imports to the country.
