Armed militants storm 5-star hotel in Pakistan’s port city Gwadar: Police

Karachi | Some armed militants on Saturday stormed a five-star hotel in Pakistan’s port city of Gwadar in the restive Balochistan province, police said.

The firing was underway at the Peal Continental Hotel after three to four armed militants barged into the facility, Dawn news quoted Gwadar Station House Officer (SHO) Aslam Bangulzai as saying, as reported by PTI.

There was no immediate reports casualties.

“At around 4:50 pm (local time) we got reports that there are three to four armed men in PC Hotel,” the officer said.

Authorities in Gwadar say “majority of guests” taken out safely from Pearl Continental Hotel, “armed militants” still holed up in one of the floors, as reported by ANI.

Gwadar, in the southern edge of Pakistan’s resource-rich province of Balochistan, is a strategically important city for the country and the development of the city’s deepwater port was funded by China.

The Pearl Continental Hotel is believed to be the only high-end hotel in Gwadar.
