Delta Variant Cases Causing Fourth Wave In Many Countries, WHO Cautions

While the rising cases of coronavirus are signalling the early arrival the third wave in India, delta variant is causing the fourth wave of in many countries around the world.

 

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday that the Delta variant of the Covid-19 is a warning to the world. Its spread has to be reduced before it gets worse. The WHO said that this fast-spreading variant already found in India has now emerged in 132 countries and regions.

Call to action on the delta variant

WHO emergency director Michael Ryan told a news conference, “Delta is a warning: it is a warning that the virus is evolving, but it is a call to action that we must understand before we come across a more dangerous variant. ”.

WHO chief Tedros said: “So far, four variants of the worrying coronavirus have emerged – and more will follow as long as the virus continues to spread.” Tedros said the average infection has increased by 80 percent in the last four weeks in five of the WHO’s six regions.

Masks and social distance still work

Ryan said that although Delta has shaken many countries, proven measures to control the transmission are still working – especially social distancing , wearing masks, hand wash, etc. “The virus has gotten fitter, the virus has gotten faster.
