Trump is taking hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malaria drug, that even his own experts have said to be not suitable for the fight against Covid-19.
Washington| US President Donald Trump on Monday made a shocking revelation that he is taking hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malaria drug, that even his own experts have said to be not suitable for the fight against Covid-19.
Trump said that he’s tested negative for the virus and shows no symptoms, however, he’d been consuming the drug for about a week and a half as a preventive measure.
“I take a pill every day,” Trump said further adding that he combines the drug with Zinc.
When asked why is he taking the drug, he replied, “Because I think it’s good. I’ve heard a lot of good stories.”
Trump has been promoting hydroxychloroquine for many weeks now despite some experts and doctors suggesting that it does not work for coronavirus patients and US government regulators have also cautioned that it is “not been shown to be safe.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that “it is not a good idea” for President Trump to be on the drug as a potential treatment for coronavirus.
“I would rather he not be taking something that has not been approved by the scientists, especially in his age group and in his, shall we say, weight group, which is morbidly obese, they say,” Pelosi said on CNN show.
“So, I think that it’s not a good idea,” she further added.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer referred to Trump’s decision of taking the drug as “reckless”.
“It gives people false hope, has people avoid real medical attention, and can actually cause them trouble. It is just dangerous what he did,” Schumer said on news channel MSNBC.
“You’d be surprised at how many people are taking it, especially the front-line workers, before you catch it. The front-line workers — many, many are taking it. I happen to be taking it,” Trump said on a when the death toll in the USA crossed 90,000-mark.
“I’m taking it, hydroxychloroquine, right now, yeah. A couple of weeks ago, I started taking it,” Donald Trump added.
