Democrats retake House, Republicans keep Senate in US midterm elections: Reports

The control of US Congress will be divided as Democrats successfully re-captured the House of Representatives.

Washington | The results of US mid-term elections seem to be divided in favour of both Democrats and Republicans, the early reports show. Reportedly, the control of US Congress will be divided as Democrats successfully re-captured the House of Representatives. However, President Trump’s Republican party has managed to maintain its hold over US Senate.

According to an NBC report, there are strong chances of Democrats winning as many as 23 seats which are significant to gain a majority in the House of Representatives. These 23 seats are from swing states like Virginia, Florida, Pennsylvania and Colorado. Democrats trumping the Republicans will indicate a decisive turn in US politics as the midterm elections are seen as people’s response to President Trump’s performance.

However, the Democrats received a beating in the 100- member US Senate where Republicans dominated. At least two Democrats were defeated by Republicans, in Indiana and North Dakota.

The final results of the US mid-term elections are yet to come.
