France on Wednesday announced that it will impose a 10-day quarantine for travelers arriving from India in the coming days to prevent the spread of a COVID-19 variant found in India.
French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday that it stands with India and is “ready to provide support to India’s fight against coronavirus”. This comes after India recorded 3,32,730 new COVID-19 cases with 2,263 fatalities in the last 24 hours.
French Ambassador Emmanuel Lenain tweeted Macron’s message which said “I want to send a message of solidarity to the Indian people, facing a resurgence of COVID-19 cases. France is with you in this struggle, which spares no one. We stand ready to provide our support.”

India’s active caseload stands for 24,28,616 cases with the death count at 1,86,920. Maharashtra continues to record the highest cases (67,013 cases in the last 24 hours). Apart from that, several cities and states have been complaining of a lack of oxygen supply, beds, and other related medications due to a surge in demand.

Meanwhile, several other countries including France have imposed travel restrictions on flights originating from India and avoid a greater spread of the new mutants/variants that have led to over-stretched health infrastructure across the country.
