“Her Feat Has Inspired The Entire World,” Says PM Modi After Meeting Kamala Harris

Washington DC : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (IST) met US Vice-President Kamala Harris. During briefing, Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla said the synergistic discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Vice-President Kamala Harris were substantive and cordial. He said issues like climate change, terrorism, cyber security, space, and others were discussed during the meeting. Shringla said when the issue of terrorism came up, VP Kamala Harris suo motu referred to Pakistan. She called out Pakistan for supporting terror groups. The role Pakistan is playing and supporting terror groups is not acceptable and asks to stop supporting them.

According to him, Kamala Harris agreed that India had been a victim of terrorism for several decades and that there was “a need to rein in, and closely monitor, Pakistan’s support for such terrorist groups”.

Kamala Harris pointed at the need to reign in and closely monitor Pakistanā€™s support for such terror groups, Shringla said.

Kamala Harris Is Source Of Inspiration
In joint meeting appearance with with US VP Narendra Modi said, “India and America are natural partners. We have similar values, geopolitical interests.”

This is the first meeting between the two leaders. Harris had earlier spoken with Modi over the phone in June during the COVID-19 crisis in India.

PM Modi said to Harris, “Your election as Vice President of USA has been an important & historic event. You are a source of inspiration for many across the world. I am confident that under Pres Biden & your leadership our bilateral relations will touch new heights.”

PM Narendra Modi, Japanese Counterpart Hold Talks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Yoshihide Suga had a “fruitful meeting” and the two leaders discussed ways to boost trade and cultural ties and further cement the bilateral strategic relations ahead of the first in-person Quad meeting to be hosted by US President Joe Biden.

“Furthering friendship with Japan,” the Prime Minister’s office said in a tweet after the meeting on Thursday.

“Prime Ministers @narendramodi and @sugawitter had a fruitful meeting in Washington DC. Both leaders held discussions on several issues including ways to give further impetus to trade and cultural ties,” the tweet further said.

PM Modi and Suga spoke in April this year and the two leaders underscored the importance of working together to create resilient, diversified and trustworthy supply chains, ensuring reliable supply of critical materials and technologies, and developing new partnerships in manufacturing and skill development to deal with the crisis.
