Addressing the crowd, the Democrat leader said, “The Indian Govt has revoked Kashmir’s autonomy, cracked down on dissent and institutionalised a communication blackout.” He further said that the crackdown in the name of ‘national security’ is denying people medical care. “Even many respected doctors in India have acknowledged that the Indian govt imposed restrictions on travel threatening the life-saving care their patients need.”

He also suggested a US intervention in the matter saying that the United States must support UN-backed peaceful resolution in Kashmir. “The communication blockade must be lifted immediately and the US government must speak out boldly in support of international humanitarian law and in support of UN-backed peaceful resolution that supports the will of Kashmiri people.”
