New Delhi| Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe may resign from his post soon. Abe, 65 years old, has been battling stomach related ailment for a long time. He has been to the hospital twice this month (17 and 24 August). Since then, his health was being discussed in the Japanese media. According to local media, Abe does not want his health to affect the functioning of the government. In such a situation, he can declare that he is leaving the post by holding a press conference on Friday.

Shinzo Abe did not appear in any program for 50 days

Despite this, Abe has not appeared in any program for the last 50 days. On 18 June, it was informed that he would interact with the media at his home. However, they were not able to do so. On August 24, Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga dismissed Shinzo’s ongoing discussions about his health. He had said that Abe is absolutely fine and is coming to the hospital for a routine checkup.
Shinzo Abe is struggling with intestinal disease
Shinzo suffers from bowel-associated ulcerative colitis. There are problems like swelling in the intestine. Shinzo had to resign in 2007, a year after becoming the Prime Minister for the first time. Not eating on time and endured stress can aggravate the disease.
Shinzo’s popularity is decreasing in Japan: Survey
According to a survey by Kyodo News Agency of Japan, Shinzo’s popularity in the country has decreased compared to the earlier. The survey, made public on Sunday, said that 58.4% of the people in the country were unhappy with the government’s way of dealing with the coronavirus epidemic. The current cabinet has an approval rating of 36%, the lowest since Shinzo became prime minister in 2012. However, the epidemic in the country is largely controlled compared to other countries. So far, more than 62 thousand infected have been found and 1200 deaths have taken place, but people are not in favour of schemes such as the distribution of reused masks by the government.
