“Leave Kyiv Urgently Today!”: India In Its Latest Advisory To Nationals Stranded In Ukraine

Kyiv: In its latest advisory, India has urged to the stranded Indian nationals to leave the Ukraine’s capital Kyiv urgently today, by trains or any other means available.

The latest advisory from the Indian Embassy in Ukraine urgingly said, “All Indian nationals including students are advised to leave Kyiv urgently today. Preferably by available trains or through any other means available.”

Yesterday the Embassy had asked the students to go to the railway station, in Kyiv to board the special evacuation trains. Few special evacuation trains were arranged by Ukraine to take people to the western region.

The advisory appealed people to remain calm and united. “We sincerely request all Indian nationals/students to remain calm, peaceful and united. A large crowd can be expected at the railway stations, therefore, it is advised that all Indian students remain patient, composed and especially not to exhibit aggressive behaviour while at the railway station,” the advisory said.

The students were asked to carry their passport, cash, and good and proper clothing. The advisory had also alerted them of delays or cancellation of trains or they might have to face long ques at the station. 

Indian students were moved to the neighboring countries like Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic sharing border with Ukraine, before being brought back to India, under operation Ganga. 

The Indian Government has set up a special Twitter handle for assisting the evacuation of the Indian students under the operation Ganga. The handle lists helpline numbers in Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic.

MEA spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, in a press conference in New Delhi said that six flights have already brought back nearly 1,400 Indian nationals stranded in Ukraine as part of ‘Operation Ganga’.

The Russia Ukraine Conflict had on Thursday morning after months of tension over the former Soviet republic’s proximity to NATO.

Around 16,000 Indian students are still stranded in Ukraine. Many have made desperate appeals for help, sharing photos and videos on social media from underground bunkers, and bomb shelters, where they have been sheltering from Russian bombs and missiles.
