“Not Even Close”, Trump Says Covid-19 Cases Higher Than China Admitted

This comes after officials sharply raised numbers of dead people in Wuhan by issuing the new count for the first-ever epicentre of Covid-19.

Washington| United States President Donald Trump on Friday referred to China’s death rate due to coronavirus as “far higher” than actually admitted by China. This comes after officials sharply raised numbers of dead people in Wuhan by issuing the new count for the first-ever epicentre of Covid-19.

“China has just announced a doubling in the number of their deaths from the Invisible Enemy. It is far higher than that and far higher than the U.S., not even close!” Donald Trump tweeted.

Referring to the abrupt increase in the death toll of Wuhan due to Covid-19, he said they are far higher than actually portrayed by China. The new numbers issued showed a whopping 50% increase in the death toll of Wuhan due to Covid-19.

The release of new numbers created growing doubts across the world on China’s transparency in managing the coronavirus crisis.

Officials had said that they had added 1,290 to the tally of casualties in Wuhan, the most suffered city in China due to the Covid-19, the disease caused by a novel coronavirus.

Wuhan, in China’s Hubei province, was the epicentre of an outbreak of coronavirus and it is believed that the virus emerged from the wet markets of Wuhan due to bat to human transmission.

President Trump has been critical of China since the beginning of the crisis. He had also accused the World Health Organisation (WHO) for siding with China and not alarming other countries with the threat that coronavirus possessed. He had also cut off the funding to WHO.
