Trump Confident COVID-19 Originated In Wuhan Lab But “Won’t Share Details”

US President Donald Trump claimed he had seen evidence linking the COVID-19 to a Wuhan lab but did not share any details.

Washington| On Thursday, US President Donald Trump claimed that he has strong evidence that COVID-19 emerged from a Wuhan lab but did not back the claim with details.

When asked whether he’s seen proof that would suggest the virus originated in the lab he said, “yes, I have,” to White House reporters.

“I can’t tell you that. I am not allowed to tell you that,” Trump said on questions about the details of the claim.

Earlier on Thursday, the US intelligence community said it agreed with the scientific consensus that the novel coronavirus was not “manmade or genetically modified.”

However, US intelligence confirmed that it was studying “whether the outbreak started through contact with infected animals or if it was the aftermath of an accident at a laboratory in Wuhan.”

“We’re looking at exactly where it came from, who it came from, how it happened,” said President Trump, adding that the results should come soon.

Experts analysing the novel coronavirus believe it possibly could have crossed from bats to humans via a host animal. They have not ruled out an accidental lab spillage but think it is doubtful. China has rejected that it came from the laboratory.

On Wednesday, Mike Pompeo, Secretary of State blamed Chinese officials of being suspicious about the virus’ origins and said US officials haven’t been permitted to investigate the lab.

The United States has entered into a grim situation as it recorded its one-millionth case of COVID-19, about one-third of the entire world’s caseload, as per Johns Hopkins University data.

Globally, the total number of COVID-19 cases neared 3,200,000 while the death toll crossed 233,000, as per the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.
