Washington| US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the United States will be classifying the ANTIFA movement as a terrorist organization after blaming the movement for recent violence in the country during protests.

The US President and some of his close aides have called the movement “far-left extremists” and have blamed it for hijacking peaceful protests against police abuses after a black man’s death in Minneapolis.
George Floyd, whose death was captured on camera while a white cop kneeled on his neck until George became unconscious and eventually passed away later, has sparked rioting in dozens of cities in the US.
In a series of Twitter posts, Trump congratulated national guards troops for restoring normalcy on Saturday after days of protests and unrest in Minneapolis.
“The ANTIFA led anarchists, among others, were shut down quickly. Should have been done by Mayor on the first night and there would have been no trouble!” Trump tweeted.
Trump was referring to the Democrat Mayor of Minneapolis Jacob Frey.
ANTIFA, as the name suggests, is a contraction of Anti-fascists, and a secretive radical group which has emerged in recent years in part in opposition to the racist sit-ins in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017.
The loose, diffuse organization of the groups would certainly seem to make it a difficult target for terrorist listing.
According to the FBI on its website, the domestic terrorist groups promote “the unlawful use, or threatened use, of violence … against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.”
