US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has landed herself in trouble after the chief of staff was targetted after being spotted wearing a T-shirt bearing the image of Subhash Chandra Bose.
Saikat Chakrabarti was seen wearing the T-shirt during a video that aired in December, who was elaborating on the work with Cortez.
The Jewish Telegraphic Agency who reported this on July 10, describes Bose as a dissident Indian nationalist recognized by Adolf Hitler as the leader of the Free India Government.
The report reads, “Bose’s defenders said he collaborated with the Nazis only in order to gain independence for India from Great Britain”.
A controversy created on Twitter, and soon opinions supporting and disapproving it came out.
Allow me. Not just in India, but across the British empire, freedom fighters sought support from rival powers – including the Axis.
But guess who had diplomatic relations with Hitler in April 1941, two years into the war, when Bose got to Germany? The USA.https://t.co/taJfFYUWf3— Raghu Karnad (@rkarnad) July 12, 2019
Bose was clear on his plan even in 1940, while imprisoned, to head out & seek freedom with the help of global powers.
The Allies-defenders of liberty-would have happily seen India stay a colony, but for an Indian to reach out to the Axis meant being a Nazi collaborator?

Dear American Press
To call our hero Subhash Chandra Bose, a freedom fighter who raised an army against mightiest of British, a “Nazi collaborator” and raising a controversy is an insult to history of our anti colonial struggle.#saikatchakrabarti#AOC https://t.co/PBb0gP4lrr

You’re right – nothing to see here. Bose is a famous Indian nationalist with streets, monuments, and the Kolkata airport named after him. His brief attempt to secure German support is certainly open to criticism but reducing him to a Nazi collaborator is historically illiterate. https://t.co/XDaYNuEty1

First @AOC quoted Nazi sympathizer Evita Perón,
Then her Chief of Staff was seen wearing a shirt featuring Nazi collaborator, Subhas Chandra Bose.
What is going on over at @RepAOC’s office? pic.twitter.com/qSvcVtRZzu

If Subhas Chandra Bose collaborated with the Nazis, it was to free India from British tyranny. He had nothing against the Jews. You might know that in fact the exiled Jews lived most peacefully in India for almost seven centuries.

So @AOC Chief of Staff @saikatc proudly donning a Subhas Chandra Bose t-shirt is either totally ignorant, totally antisemitic, totally anti immigration, or classic progressive cherry picking on antisemitism and human rights. I’d love an explanation. pic.twitter.com/IvfDmEVdBO
