Election 2019

If I want a ‘Chowkidar’, I’ll go to Nepal: Hardik Patel

Surendranagar | Congress leader Hardik Patel taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi “Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign for the Lok Sabha election said that the Country needs a Prime Minister not a ‘Chowkidar’.

Addressing reporters after casting his vote in Gujarat’s Surendranagar, the Patidar leader said, If i want a ‘Chowkidar’ I will go to Nepal, I want a Prime Minister who could strengthen country’s Economy, education, Youth and Armed forces.” He further added that if the country needs a Prime minister not a ‘Chowkidar’.

Patidar leader Hardik Patel who aimed to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Gujarat’s Jamnagar faced a setback when the Gujarat high court rejected Congress leader Hardik Patel’s plea seeking suspension of his conviction in a rioting case of 2015 in Mehsana.

In July 2018, the sessions court at Visnagar had sentenced Patel to two years’ imprisonment for rioting and arson in Visnagar town during the 2015 Patidar quota stir. The high court granted him bail and suspended his sentence in August 2018, but his conviction was not stayed.
According to the Representation of the People Act, a convicted cannot contest elections unless the conviction has stayed.
