New Delhi | Election Commission has sent a notice to the newly sworn-in MP Sunny Deol for over speding during the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
The Gurdaspur MP has allegedly spent about ₹86 lakh, while the expenditure limit is ₹70 lakh, according to some documents received by the EC.
Strict actions can be taken for overspending, including cancellation of the candidacy even after the victory, and declaring the second highest vote garner as the new MP.
BJP leader Sunny Deol is the first time MP in Lok Sabha from Gurdaspur in Punjab, securing his win by more than 50,000 votes against Congress leader Sunil Jakhar.
The seat was previously occupied by the then BJP leader and famous actor Vinod Khanna.
His father Dharmendra has also previously fought on BJP ticket.
