Election Commission rejects demands of opposition parties’ regarding VVPAT

New Delhi | In a major setback to the opposition parties before the Lok Sabha results, the Election Commission today rejected the demand of opposition parties regarding the counting of VVPAT slips with EVMS.

Various opposition parties met the Election Commission (EC) and raised the issue of tallying paper trail of votes (VVPATs) with electronic voting machine (EVM) figures as per Supreme Court directions.

The opposition parties had demanded the tallying of VVPAT slips with EVM figures in an entire Assembly constituency in case a discrepancy is found in any polling booth.

The court had asked the EC to tally the VVPAT slips with the EVM figures of five polling stations in each Assembly constituency across the country, which may delay the results.

More details awaited…
