Hans Raj Hans converted to Islam; can’t contest from reserved North West Delhi, alleges AAP

New Delhi | The Aam Aadmi Party today opposing the candidature of Hans Raj Hans from the North West Delhi constituency said that Hans can’t contest form the reserved seat of North West Delhi as he converted to Islam in 2014.

Addressing a press conference, AAP’s Rajendra Gautam said,” “As per EC guidelines, North West Delhi is a reserved seat. But BJP’s Hans Raj Hans doesn’t come from the reserved category as he has already converted into Islam in 2014.” He further alleged that this is a complete violation of the Election commission rules as he deliberately concealed this information from EC. This complete violation of EC rules.

The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) on April 23 announced that Punjabi Sufi singer Hans Raj Hans will be party’s candidate from the North-West Delhi constituency.

Hans had joined the BJP in December 2016 after resigning from the Congress party in 2014. He was also a member of th Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab and had also contested the election from the Jalandhar constituency in 2009.

Hans Raj Hans has replaced Udit Raj who is the sitting MP from the North-West Delhi constituency. Raj has earlier announced that he would quit the BJP is he is denied the Lok Sabha ticket by the party. Hans will now contest against AAP’s Guggan Singh and Congress’ Rajesh Lilothia on the North-West Delhi seat.
