The Rafale controversy is far from over. After the Supreme Court agreed this week to examine the Classified or allegedly Secret defence ministry documents regarding the deal, the Government again had to go on defensive mode. Reason? french daily Le Monde’s report on its investigation into the Rafale deal.
On Saturday, the French daily published another article as a part of its series of investigation into the Rafale deal between India and France. The report said that Anil Ambani who is at the centre of controversy over Rafale’s offset received a tax waiver of worth 143.7 million euros. The report said that Anil Ambani owed France government 151 million euros. However, French tax authorities accepted 7.3 million euros as final settlement. When did he get this tax waiver? the report says this happened barely six months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the government-to-government deal for 36 Rafale fighter jets in Paris in 2015 after scrapping the old UPA era deal.
