Can Students Protest Without Political Support?: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi

Udupi: Union minister Pralhad Joshi, asks that can the students protesting amid hijab row, protest without any political support? He calls the Hijab row in Karnataka a “non-issue”. He says that all the students should follow the dress code.

“Whether it is a girl or boy student, can either of them do protests without any political support?” news agency ANI quoted Pralhad Joshi as saying.

“All students must follow the dress code prescribed by the schools/administration. Law and order must be maintained in the state. We need to see who are these people who are instigating the students,” he added.

Tensions are prevailing at some educational institutions in Udupi, Shivamogga, Bagalkote and other parts of Karnataka as protests as students wearing hijab and saffron shawls clashed with each other.

The Union minister said that one should not take law in their hands. “If there is a disturbance in law and order, then police had to handle it indeed,” ANI quoted him as saying.

Amid Hijab Row All Schools And Colleges Shut In Karnataka For Three Days, CM Bommai Appeals For Peace

Amid the Karnataka Hijab protests, Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai appeals to maintain peace. He has ordered the closure of all high schools and colleges for the next three days. He requested all the concerned authorities’ cooperation.

On February 8 a girl entering college was stopped by a saffron scarf-clad mob, and being accosted by a mob chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram.’ The authorities intervened to keep both groups of students away from each other.

Chief Minister took to Twitter appealed for peace. He tweeted, “I appeal to all the students, teachers, and management of schools and colleges as well as people of Karnataka to maintain peace and harmony. I have ordered the closure of all high schools and colleges for the next three days. All concerned are requested to cooperate.”
