New Delhi: In the Supreme Court, when the petition regarding the evacuation of stranded Indian from Ukraine came up, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana said that he is not commenting on the governments efforts but is concerned about the anxiety of parents of students stuck at Ukraine.
He said, “We are not saying anything about the efforts of the government. We are concerned about the anxiety of parents.”
He further gave a suggestion and said that the Centre can create an online helpline/information desk about Indians who are still stranded in Ukraine.
While hearing the petition, the CJI Ramana said, “Can we ask [Russian President Vladimir] Putin to stop the war? What can we do in this matter? Tomorrow, you will ask us to issue orders to Putin…Can we ask Putin to stop the war? We have full sympathy and concern with the students. The government of India is doing its job.”
The SC said that the next hearing on the issue will be heard next Friday, March 11.
The Centre has informed the Supreme Court that the petitioner who moved to the SC over the roadblocks in the evacuation Ukraine to Romania has been evacuated. The person will be landing in India on Friday evening along with about 70 others evacuated from the area.
Family of Fathima Ahana had filed a plea. The plea claimed that the students were stranded at stranded at the Moldova-Romania border without any aid from the Indian government.
Under the operation Ganga the evacuation process is currently being carried out. In last 24 hours 15 flights have landed in India, and brought back 3000 Indians Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.
18 flights including three C-17 Indian Airforce Aircraft are scheduled to fly with stranded Indians within next 24 hours.
There will be seven flights from Romania’s capital Bucharest, five from Budapest in Hungary, three from Rzeszow in Poland, and one from Koice in Slovakia.
