Cop Injured Amid Protests, Burnt Effigy Thrown At Him

Gwalior: The city witnessed a protest today amid the shifting of a vegetable market in the city. Amid the protest a sub-inspector has been injured. Some of the protestors burnt effigy, and allegedly threw on the officer, city’s officials stated. 

In connection with this, five people have been arrested. The incident took in Phoolbagh area here, Superintendent of Police Amit Sanghi said.

He said that some of the police personals tried to stop the protesters after they poured petrol on an effigy during the protest, which was being held without permission.

However, the ones protesting allegedly threw the burnt effigy on sub-inspector (SI) Deepak Gautam. After doing so they indulged into a small tussle with the officer when he tried to stop them, the official said.

The official has received 45 percent burnt injury and is undergoing treatment at the hospital, the officials informed. 

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan spoke to the injured policeman over phone, another official said.

The agitation was organised by the Congress to protest the shifting of a vegetable market from Hajira area of Gwalior. The district administration, however, said the vegetable vendors removed from the Hajira area have been shifted to other.
