New Delhi: On Monday, ahead of he top decision-making body of the Congress held a meeting. They met before brainstorming session in Rajasthan’s Udaipur to discuss the agenda for it and clear a batch of internal reports on organisational reforms, social justice and empowerment, agriculture and farmers among other issues.
At the meeting Sonia Gandhi said, “Congress has been good to all, time to repay that debt in full. There are no magic wands, only discipline, consistent collective purpose to demonstrate our tenacity, resilience.”
She said that full cooperation of leaders is required for ensuring the unity, determination, and commitment in party. In an apparent reference to voices of dissent in the party in recent times, she said, “Self-criticism needed in party forums, but shouldn’t be done in manner that self-confidence, morale is eroded. Seek full cooperation of leaders to ensure unity, determination, commitment to Congress’s accelerated revival.”
According to NDTV sources, in addition to setting the agenda for the Udaipur ‘Chintan Shivir,’ the CWC meeting discussed increasing social representation of various sections in all organisational positions, above the current 33% reservation for women, empowering state units to choose booth and district level heads, and the party’s plans to address some key concerns in order to take on the BJP
Last month the party had announced Chintan Shivir. It is a three day session held at Udaipur. In the session the party leaders will be discussing internal issues and will be coming up with a solution.
About 400 top party leaders are expected to attend the camp. Senior leaders including those in the Congress Working Committee (CWC), members of parliament, state in-charges, general secretaries, and state presidents will participate in the Chintan Shivir.
After having a debate over a revival plan provided by poll strategist Prashant Kishor, the Congress announced that an empowered group will be formed. This group will confront the political difficulties ahead and formulate the strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, despite a succession of electoral defeats.
