Former Haryana Chief Minister OP Chautala Convicted In Disproportionate Assets Case

Former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala was today convicted by the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi in a disproportionate assets case.

On May 26, the court will hear arguments on the quantum of punishment to be given to the Indian National Lok Dal leader.

On March 26, 2010, the CBI filed a chargesheet against OP Chautala for allegedly amassing assets worth Rs 6.09 crore between 1993 and 2006. The amount is reportedly disproportionate to the legitimate income.

A Delhi court in January 2021 had framed money laundering charges against OP Chautala in connection with the disproportionate assets case.

After they were found guilty of corruption in a teacher recruitment scam in 2013, OP Chautala and his son Ajay were also sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment. OP Chautala is now 87 years old and was released from jail in July 2021.
