Harak Singh Rawat Expelled From BJP Amid Anti-Party Activities

Dehradun: Uttarakhand cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat on January 16 got expelled from Bhartiya Janta Party for six years amid anti-party activities. He was sacked from the state council of ministers too. About removing Rawat from the state cabinet, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has also apprised the governor, as per Times Now sources.

Harak Singh Rawat is likely to join the Congress on Monday in the presence of Harish Rawat and other senior party leaders.

On purpose, he has been removed from the Cabinet and the party’s primary membership, after he met with some Congress leaders ahead of the upcoming Assembly election. He reportedly visited Delhi on Sunday.

Harak Singh Rawat told India Today he was not aware of the proceedings against him.

The Bhartiya Janta Party-led government in Uttarakhand had said that Rawat was unaware of the current scenarios and was only having the information being posted on social media.

Harak Singh Rawat is likely to join the Congress at noon on Monday in the presence of former Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat and Uttarakhand Congress chief Ganesh Godiyal.

Along with Harak Singh Rawat, two more Bhartiya Janta Party MLAs are likely to join the Congress too.

The Uttarakhand Assembly election is scheduled to be held in a single phase on February 14, 2022. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.

The last assembly polls in Uttarakhand in 2017 were held in a single phase and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 57 of the state’s 70 Assembly constituencies.

This time, the Uttarakhand Assembly polls are likely to witness a three-cornered fight among the ruling Bhartiya Janta Party, the Congress led by Harish Rawat, and Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party.

Harak Singh Rawat was among the ten MLAs who rebelled against Congress leader Harish Rawat and switched to the BJP in 2016.
