Gandhinagar: Hardik Patel has resigned from the Congress, dealing the party a major setback only months before the Gujarat poll.
While launching a blistering attack on Congress’s senior leadership, Hardik Patel in his letter said that the “big leaders of Congress in Gujarat are far away from issues of the state but are more focussed on ensuring that chicken sandwich for leaders who have come from Delhi is delivered on time!”
In the letter, he also said that despite several attempts to steer the Congress in the right direction, “the party has constantly been working against the interests of the country and society.”
The Patidar leader accused party’s senior leadership of lacking seriousness. “Whenever I met with senior leadership, I always felt that leaders were not really interested in hearing about problems concerning the people of Gujarat but were more engrossed in what messages they had received on their mobile…”
While concluding his letter, the Patidar leader said, “…I believe that after this step, I will truly be able to work positively for the people of our state.”
In 2019, right before the Lok Sabha election, the Patidar activist joined the Congress.
Hardik Patel, the poster boy of the Patidar agitation movement in Gujarat, was reportedly upset with the treatment being given to him and was mulling quitting the party, sources close to him had indicated earlier.
He had been talking about infighting in the Gujarat Congress unit for the previous few weeks, comparing his situation in the party to that of a “groom driven into nasbandi (vasectomy).”
