More Than 10,000 People Stranded On Uttrakhandโ€™s Yamunotri Highway As Safety Wall Collapses: Report

Char Dham: Over 10,000 people are said to be stranded on the route going to the Yamunotri temple in Uttrakhand. The highwayโ€™s safety wall caved in, causing this to happen. According to sources, reopening the road might take up to three days.

According to reports, the road could be reopened in three days.

Buses and other heavy vehicles were also prohibited from entering the area. A total of 24 pilgrim buses and 15 minibuses (Char Dham) have been stopped. They were escorted to the Sainchatti guest home and a nearby ashram.

The district administration is attempting to evacuate passengers from some of the smaller vehicles, but those who have arrived in large vehicles from afar are unable to leave.

Mr. Guterres urged everyone to do their part โ€œto safeguard our planetโ€, saying that โ€œtogether, we can build a brighter and more prosperous future.โ€

Be bold, be ambitious

The UN is proud to join in the global effort to mark Earth Hour, said the UN chief, calling it โ€œa reminder that small actions can make a big difference.โ€

He called on citizens everywhere, to join in the global switch off, for an hour on Saturday, at 8.30pm local time โ€“ wherever you call home.

In what he dubbed a โ€œmake-or-breakโ€ year, the Secretary-General encouraged everyone to let their actions and voices send a clear message to leaders everywhere: โ€œNow is the time to be bold and ambitiousโ€.

โ€œLetโ€™s show the world that we are determined to protect the one home we all share,โ€ he concluded.
