Mumbai Court Issues Summons To Salman Khan, His Bodyguard In Journalist’s Criminal Intimidation Case

Mumbai: A magistrate court in Delhi has issued summons to actor Salman Khan and his bodyguard Nawaz Shaikh, on a complaint filed by a journalist claiming that he was assaulted in 2019. The summons are issued for April 5.

The journalist has claimed that in April 2019, he and a camera person tried to film Salman Khan, who was cycling. The journalist said that he had taken permission from his bodyguard to film Salman Khan, but after Salman noticed and objected, he was manhandled by the bodyguards and his phone was snatched by Salman Khan.

Metropolitan Magistrate RR Khan, in his order noted that the report of police in the matter stated that offences under Indian Penal Code Sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) are made out against the accused persons.

Journalist Ashok Pandey, in his complaint demanded criminal action to be initiated against actor Salman Khan and his bodyguard.

He said in his complaint before the court that when he approached the DN Nagar police, no complaint was filed.

On Tuesday, the Andheri court issued summons against Khan and one of his bodyguards. It has earlier called for a report from the police.

The court had directed local police station to inquire the whole matter.

In its order on Tuesday, the court said, “Keeping in view the self-speaking material on record, positive police report and other material on record, there are sufficient grounds to proceed against the accused persons.”

The summons being issued, marks the beginning of criminal proceedings before a metropolitan or judicial magistrate on the basis of a complaint filed by an individual.

The court issues the process, only if it finds any substance in the allegations made in the complaint. Once the process of summons is issued, the accused has to appear before the court.
