NCPCR Commissioner Summons Director Of Twitter India For Ignoring Action Against Comedian Kunal Kamra

New Delhi: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) the apex child rights body has summoned Twitter India’s communications director on Wednesday, complaining that the social media company has not yet filed an action taken report regarding a “doctored” video posted by comedian Kunal Kamra of a child singing a song for Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Germany earlier this month.

Kamra had tweeted the video of PM Modi’s interaction with the 7 year old boy in Germany but he replaced the song, Janmabhoomi Bharat, with Mehangayi Dayan, which is a song on inflation from the movie Peepli Live a 2010 satire film.

The boy’s father had slammed Kamra tweeting “This 7-year-old is my son, who wanted to sing this song for his beloved Motherland. Though he is still very young certainly he loves his country more than you, Mr Kamra or Kachra, whatever u are. Keep the poor boy out of your filthy politics & and try to work on your poor jokes”.

On Tuesday, the child rights panel in its letter to twitter wrote, “A letter in this regard was sent to your good offices dated 05.05.2022 calling for an ATR (action taken report) in the instant complaint within 7 days or receipt of the letter. However, no such ATR has been yet received by the Commission.”

While speaking to NCPCR chairperson Priyank Kanoongo in this regard he said ” This is not an isolated case with Twitter, but a repeating occurrence… If they operate in India, they have to follow the law of the land.”
