Anti-CAA stir: Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad detained from Jama Masjid

“We have to make sacrifices so that the law can be withdrawn. We do not support violence,” Chandrashekhar Azad said while being detained.

 

New Delhi| Delhi Police arrested Bhim Army chief Chandrasekhar Azad, who was sitting for Dharna in Delhi’s Jama Masjid since Friday morning, in protest against citizenship law. Chandrashekhar Azad told the media that he was protesting peacefully. “Our people have not committed violence,” he said. Meanwhile, the protesters staged a peaceful protest in front of the Delhi Gate and police headquarters on Friday evening.

“We have to make sacrifices so that the law can be withdrawn. We do not support violence,” Chandrashekhar Azad said while being detained. At least 36 people, including 8 policemen, were injured in clashes over citizenship law in Delhi on Friday. All injured have been admitted to Lok Nayak Hospital for treatment.

40 protesters were detained

There was a fire during the demonstration. People set fire to a private car parked in Subhash Marg, Daryaganj. Delhi Police arrested 40 people. Police said that strict action will be taken against those who have been found involved in violence and arson.

Internet shutdown in some parts of northeast Delhi

In some areas of northeast Delhi, the internet was shut down for a while, which was started late at night. At the same time, section 144 is applicable in several police stations in Delhi-NCR in view of a violent incident. These include Bhajanpura, Dayalpur, Gokalpuri, Jaffarabad, Jyoti Nagar, Karawal Nagar, Khajuri Khas, Nand Nagar, New Osmanpur, Silampur, Shastri Park, Welcome, Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Daryaganj.

Those involved in setting fire in Seelampur arrested

Rahesh, who was accused of spreading violence and throwing flammable substances during the protests by Seelampur police, has been arrested. Police are now treating him. During the protest in Seelampur on Tuesday, the mob threw stones at the police. During this time many policemen and paramilitary personnel were injured. Even before this many protesters have been arrested.
