Chandigarh: The government will fight strongly for rightful claim over Chandigarh, said Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on March 28 in his first public reaction to announcement made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah about providing employees of the Chandigarh Union Territory administration with the same benefits as Central government employees.
Mann has accused the central government for violation of Punjab Reorganisation Act 1966, by imposing officials from other states and services in Chandigarh administration.
Taking to Twitter, Mann tweeted, “Central Govt has been stepwise imposing officers and personnel from other states and services in Chandigarh administration. This goes against the letter and spirit of Punjab Reorganisation Act 1966. Punjab will fight strongly for its rightful claim over Chandigarh…”
Amit Shah had stated that the employees are going to benefit in a big way, on Sunday. He said, “The retirement age of employees in the Union Territory will now go up from 58 to 60 years and women employees will now get child care leave of two years from the current one year”.
Citing that it was a long pending demand of employees of the Chandigarh administration, Amit Shah said, “Today the Modi government has made a big decision and tomorrow a notification will be issued and from the upcoming financial year (April 1) you will get the benefit.”
